We founded the company in 1998, at a time when businesses were beginning to recognise the need for an online presence. We started by creating static HTML websites and providing hosting and email support, a digital foothold for companies entering the web.

Recognising a clear need among our customers, we decided to develop our own Content Management System. This led to the creation of Web Wizard—a powerful CMS that allowed clients to update their content in-house.

After five years at the family-owned Lace Mill in Ruddington, we moved to new premises on Brookside Road, giving us room to grow and the space to introduce dedicated training facilities.

As enquiries for larger-scale Ecommerce sites increased, we recognised the direction the market was heading. We focused on strengthening our development team so we could build high-performing online stores that would drive sales for product-based businesses.

Recognising the growing importance of strong imagery on websites, we began offering photography services to our clients. From product photography to meet-the-team portraits, this enabled us to help customers tell their stories more effectively online. Since then, we’ve expanded our capabilities even further, becoming Nikon NPS Professionals and adding both video production and drone photography to our services.

In 2008, we launched Web Wizard 2, our newest and most advanced CMS. Building on everything we learned from the previous version. We created a faster, more flexible system that was especially well suited for integrated Ecommerce sites. This aligned perfectly with our growing focus in that area and the rapid expansion of our partner network.

Fame at last! In early 2010, we were contacted by ITV television studios to feature in an episode of The Tonight Show, hosted by Jonathan Maitland. The programme focused on small family businesses taking their first steps onto the web.
One of our long-standing clients, Farndon Fields, a well-established farming family in Market Harborough, decided to promote their farm shop online, and the show followed the journey from concept through to launch. Sam, Wida’s Managing Director, was filmed at his offices from the very first discussions with Milly, the owner, followed by a trip to Market Harborough with a full film crew in tow. The episode later aired in ITV’s prime-time slot, Sam’s 15 minutes of fame!

Wida Group was invited to a round-table meeting hosted by the Rt Hon David Blunkett at the Royal Air Force Club in Piccadilly, addressing the need to support offline businesses in moving online, both financially and through education. Representatives from major organisations such as Very.co.uk and Google’s Managing Director at the time, Matt Brittin were key contributors to the discussion.

Wida recognised the growing importance of Search Engine Marketing and the need to offer this service to our clients. To meet this demand, Sam and his business partner, Paul Baguley, established a new company, Internet Sales Drive, dedicated to providing SEO, AdWords, and social media support for Wida’s customers.

One of our long-standing clients, Alan Ball from Hopewells Furnishers in Nottingham, introduced us to Teo, the Managing Director of Retso Studio. Retso is a comprehensive POS retail software solution designed specifically for independent retailers. After discussions, Sam and Teo agreed that Retso was an excellent fit for Wida Group, and Teo decided to join forces with us.

We were approached by the Nottingham Panthers ice hockey team to help improve their online presence. We developed a website that highlighted their upcoming fixtures and included a wide range of additional features to support their fans and organisation.

Watford Football Club approached us to develop a bespoke procurement and budgeting software system. After several on-site meetings to fully understand their requirements, we delivered a tailored solution that met their needs. Even though Sam, our MD, is an avid Nottingham Forest fan!

This year marked the launch of Web Wizard 3, a completely new CMS built from the ground up with a modern database structure. It’s faster, more intuitive, and introduces drag-and-drop functionality for an even smoother user experience.
